New merged engineering organization launches titles.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (London/ Edison, NJ), an entity formed earlier this year through the merger of Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (liE), has launched one new title and will begin the publication of five other new journals beginning in 2007.

"Micro and Nano Letters" is published quarterly and covers fundamental and applied research related to micro-and nano-scale science and technology. It will concentrate on the latest advances in engineering, physical, chemical, biological and material science, technology and applications of miniature and ultra-miniature structures and systems. The first issue includes articles on such topics as nanowires A wire made from nanotubes. A nanowire allows a much lower current to flow compared to metal wire. See nanotube., three-dimensional probing, fuel cells, diagnostic advances, and imprinting, among others. An annual subscription costs $900.

Both "IET IET - Independent Evaluation Team
IET - Industrial Engineering Technician
IET - Information and Enterprise Technology
IET - Initial Entry Training
IET - Initiative for Environmental Technology
IET - Installation Evaluation Test
IET - Institute for Environmental Toxicology
IET - Institution of Engineering and Technology (merged name of IEE and IIE)
IET - Intelligent Electronic Typewriter
Renewable Power Generation" and "IET Synthetic Biology" will launch in March and will be produced quarterly in 2007, going to six times a year in 2008. An annual subscription to either title costs $1195. "IET Synthetic Biology" carries information on studies in synthetic cell biology and the interaction within and between cells. Content includes coverage of genomics, proteomics, cells, tissue, systems, signals, experimental data analysis, modeling and simulation, methodologies, networks and pathways.

"IET Renewable Power Generation" is designed as a forum for the publication of current practice and future developments in the renewable electric power generation, transmission and distribution industries. Content includes information on hydropower, wind power, biomass, solar power and marine power technologies, project types and their feasibility, environmental considerations, capital costs, generating costs, political and legislative barriers for each technology, and prospects for future growth.

Also, "IEE Proceedings Vision, Image & Signal Processing" will split into three new titles beginning in 2007. "IET Computer Vision" covers such topics as the reconstruction of 3D depth information, estimation of object motion, attribute-based recognition and high-level sceen understanding. "IET Image Processing" will cover image enhancement and restoration, feature extraction, low-level segmentation and color and texture analysis. Finally, "IET Signal Processing" will cover advances in single and multidimensional, linear and non-linear digital filters and filter banks, signal transformation techniques, spectral analysis, system modeling, the application of chaos theory
Chaos Theory
Also referred to as non-linear dynamics, chaos theory is a mathematical concept explaining that it is possible to get random results from normal equations. The main precept behind this theory is the underlying notion of small occurrences significantly affecting the outcomes of seemingly unrelated events.

Notes:
Chaos theory has been applied to many different things, from predicting weather patterns to the stock market.
, and neural network-based approaches to signal processing. All three titles will be published six times a year.
