New medical titles from a Wolters Kluwer & Thomson.

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (Philadelphia, PA), a unit of Wolters Kluwer Healthcare, has launched "The Vaccine Quarterly" with an issue in February. It is targeted to pediatricians and family practitioners and is available on a controlled basis. It is supported by an educational grant from Merck & Co.

The journal's purpose is to distill the growing information on new vaccines and related advances that, while supportive of the public health, is nonetheless "burdensome and confusing" for practitioners. Each issue will have three main sections. A Literature Review section carries eight recent scientific articles relevant to vaccine providers, while an Editor's Section includes new recommendations, licensures and other vaccine news. Also, each issue's Guest Article section addresses one specific vaccine topic.

"Urgent Care Alert," launched in January by AHC Media (Atlanta, GA), a unit of the Thomson Corp., is a monthly newsletter targeted to urgent care specialists, emergency medicine physicians, emergency medicine nurses, family practitioners, pediatricians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Editorial content includes information the latest clinical developments applicable for urgent care centers, the range of topics dealing with the unique aspects of urgent care, and commentary of the practical implications of new clinical developments. It is also designed to help readers recognize specific conditions, apply new and proven therapeutic techniques to patients and identify both common and rare complications that may occur. An annual subscription costs $249.

AHC publishes 47 other newsletters for the medical and healthcare fields, including such titles as "AIDS Alert," "Clinical Oncology Report," "Hospital Infection Control" and "Neurology Alert."
