New material requirements planning module completes State Of The Art's M.A.S 90 Level 2.0 Manufacturing Solution; New Level 2.0 enhancements further expand M.A.S 90 Manufacturing Solution's capability and flexibility.

) Monday introduced a new Material Requirements Planning (application) Material Requirements Planning - (MRP) A system for effectively managing material requirements in a manufacturing process.

Information systems have long been an important part of the manufacturing environment.
 (MRP (Material Requirements Planning) An information system that determines what assemblies must be built and what materials must be procured in order to build a unit of equipment by a certain date. ) module for its flagship M.A.S 90(r) EVOLUTION/2(tm) product line and its M.A.S 90(r) Manufacturing Solution.

Also announced are powerful new Level 2.0 enhancements to the M.A.S 90 Manufacturing Solution increasing capability and flexibility. The Level 2.0 Manufacturing Solution modules will be shipping June 19, 1995 and the MRP module will begin shipping June 26, 1995.

"Material Requirements Planning is our 26th module in the M.A.S 90(r) EVOLUTION/2(tm) product line," said Jennifer L. Wilson, vice president of sales.

"Generally, most mid-range software providers have not provided competitive solutions in manufacturing but as a market it represents 20% of our installed base. With this module, not only will our end-users have increased capabilities, our resellers will enjoy even more revenue opportunities within the manufacturing industry."

The MRP module was designed to simplify and speed up the work processes within purchasing and production departments making the M.A.S 90 Manufacturing Solution ideal for distributors and discrete manufacturers.

Purchasing managers will also be able to minimize costs by keeping inventory at a minimum level, without disrupting the manufacturing schedule.

With the MRP module, the MRP report generation process looks at "demand" based on open sales orders The sales order, sometimes abbreviated as SO, is an order received by a business from a customer. A sales order may be for products and/or services. Given the wide variety of businesses, this means that the orders can be fulfilled in several ways.  and sales projections, and "supply" based on inventory stock levels and open purchase orders.

Product build times, lead times, and "supply" and "demand" functions are combined to estimate the need for an inventory item. Users can produce reports based on action by date to advise the purchasing manager which orders need to be placed, which need to be changed and which need to be canceled.

The MRP module allows for entry of monthly and weekly sales projections by warehouse for each manufactured item, and monthly and weekly sales projections by customer. The Auto Work Order Generator automatically creates all required work orders, thus performing the most time-consuming step in the work order process for the user.

The following is a highlight of the significant Level 2.0 enhancements made to the modules comprising M.A.S 90 Manufacturing Solution:

Work Order Processing Level 2.0

o Enhanced generation of work orders from sales orders. When

creating a work order from a sales order, options are now brought

over for unexploded Sales Kits and Standard Bill Items.

o Work Order cost roll-up simplifies maintenance of user's

Standard Costs in Inventory.

o Multiple batch entry, print and update. Multiple data sessions

can now take place simultaneously in Work Order Transaction Entry,

each with unique batch numbers assigned automatically or by the

user.

Bill of Materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on.  Level 2.0

o Multi-level production entry allows users to specify whether

they want sub-assemblies exploded on your Bill of Materials

Inventory Management Level 2.0

o Extended Inventory Item Descriptions of up to 99 lines of 50

characters may be entered for an inventory item and are available

for printing on sales order and purchase order forms.

o Alias (1) An alternate name used for identification, such as for naming a field or a file. See CNAME record.

(2) In the Mac, an alias is an icon that points to a program or data file.
 Item Numbers track an unlimited number of alias item

numbers for your inventory items.

o Enhanced Unit of Measure Conversion Maintenance to allow an

unlimited number of entries and provide fractional units the unit of a fraction; the reciprocal of the denominator; thus, ¼ is the unit of the fraction

Sales Order Processing Level 2.0

o Expanded Option Entry. Options defined in Bill of Materials

may now be entered for Standard Bill types during Sales Order Entry

and Invoice Data Entry.

o Bar Codes. New fields have now been added allowing Order

Numbers, Customer Numbers, Item Numbers, Quantities, and more to be

printed as bar codes on Sales Orders, Picking Sheets, and Invoices.

o Extended Item Descriptions may be entered for Miscellaneous

Items and Special Items during Sales Order and Invoice Data Entry.

Purchase Order Processing Level 2.0

o Work Order Integration. Purchase orders may now be created and

identified as being for materials or outside processing for a Work

Order. When a Receipt of Goods is processed, the costs will be

updated directly to the Work Order Processing module.

o Bar Codes. New fields have been added allowing Purchase Order

numbers, Vendor Numbers, Item Number, and Quantities.

o Extended Item Descriptions may be entered for Miscellaneous

Items and Special Items during Purchase Order Entry and Return

of Goods Entry.
