New machines & powders for laser sintering.

A small laser-sintering system that produces nylon or polystyrene polystyrene (pŏl'ēstī`rēn), widely used plastic; it is a polymer of styrene. Polystyrene is a colorless, transparent thermoplastic that softens slightly above 100°C; (212°F;) and becomes a viscous liquid at around 185°C;  parts or Prototypes directly from a CAD file, as well as upgrades for two systems that make larger parts, are new from Electro Optical Systems (EOS Eos (ē`ŏs), in Greek religion and mythology, goddess of dawn; daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia. Every morning she arose early and preceded her brother Helios into the heavens. ) in Germany (U.S. office in Novi, Mich.) Its Formiga P 100 model (photo) is a new compact model for direct manufacturing See rapid manufacturing.  of parts and functional prototypes. It has a build envelope of 200 x 250 x 330 mm and can produce complex shapes with wall thicknesses down to 0.4 mm in a few hours. This is the first EOS laser-sintering system that can pass through a standard doorway.

Also new is the Eosint P 390 system, which builds parts with a high-quality surface and without supports. It has a build envelope of 340 x 340 x 620 mm and Intelliscan 20, the latest digital scanner, which is said to increase system productivity. EOS also has improved on its Eosint P 700 platform, which doubles productivity by using two lasers simultaneously. The new Eosint p 730, with a build envelope of 700 x 380 x 580 mm, is up to 40% more productive than the P 700.

EOS has new plastic powders for laser sintering Building prototypes and finished parts in a machine from powdered thermoplastics and metals that are cured by heat from a laser. From CAD drawings that have been cross sectioned into thousands of layers, the machine builds up the part by curing one layer at a time.  made of nylon 12 filled with carbon fiber or 40% aluminum powder. EOS also has new metal powders, such as MS1 maraging steel Maraging steels (from Martensitic Aging) are iron alloys which are known for possessing superior strength without losing malleability. The iron base is alloyed principally with a large percentage of nickel to produce a very specific heat-treatment product. , which can be used to make tool inserts that are fully dense and need no post-processing, Tel: (248) 306-0143*www.eos.info
