New legal services benefit for MTNA members.

An exciting new benefit of MTNA membership will begin on July 1. MTNA will provide legal consultation services exclusively for our members. The service will be provided at no cost as a benefit of membership.

The legal services will be provided by a law firm selected by MTNA because of its expertise with associational and professional legal issues. The firm provides similar services for other national associations like MTNA.

Legal consultation for our members will be in areas directly related to your teaching, such as:

* Zoning issues

* Bill collection

* Business formation (additional fees may be required for filing in your state)

* Non-compete agreements

* Buying and selling existing studios

* Music purchases and resale to students

* Copyright and ASCAP issues

* Ethics issues

* Liability issues

* Tax issues

In addition, common legal forms will be made available on the MTNA website or by fax at no charge. On issues beyond the scope of MTNA's legal consultation service, the attorney will direct the member to a local attorney if desired. Or the MTNA member may contract with the MNTA attorney for legal representation at a substantially reduced rate.
