New journals on ecology, energy efficiency spatial science.Springer Science + Business (New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of ) has launched a new journal covering spatial science and will begin the publication of two other journals on energy efficiency and ecology beginning in February 2008. "Theoretical Ecology Theoretical ecology The use of models to explain patterns, suggest experiments, or make predictions in ecology. Because ecological systems are idiosyncratic, extremely complex, and variable, ecological theory faces special challenges. " will be launched in February 2008 to cover innovative research in theoretical ecology and research that bridges disciplinary boundaries, such as the intersection between qualitative social sciences and ecology, and physical influences on ecological processes. It will include articles on all areas of theoretical ecology, including population ecology Population ecology The study of spatial and temporal patterns in the abundance and distribution of organisms and of the mechanisms that produce those patterns. , ecophysiology e·co·phys·i·ol·o·gy n. The study of the interrelationship between an organism's physical functioning and its environment. e , evolutionary ecology Evolutionary ecology lies at the intersection of ecology and evolutionary biology. It approaches the study of ecology in a way that explicitly considers the evolutionary histories of species and the interactions between them. , ecosystem ecology Ecosystem ecology is the integrated study of biotic and abiotic components of ecosystems and their interactions within an ecosystem framework. This science examines how ecosystems work and relates this to their components such as chemicals, bedrock, soil, plants, and animals , and landscape ecology. Also to be launched in February 2008, "Energy Efficiency" is being designed to cover different aspects of energy efficiency in the residential, tertiary, industrial and transport sectors. A multidisciplinary journal, the title will cover such topics as: energy efficiency policies at local, regional, national and international levels; energy taxation; subsidies; information campaigns; voluntary programs; standards and labels; energy savings obligation; market-based mechanisms; and, the integration of flexible mechanisms. "Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences," also to be published quarterly, will be launched in September to carry research and articles in social sciences that contain a spatial dimension. It will include information on regional science, regional and urban economics, geography, environmental and resource economics, demography, agricultural economics, GIS and spatial econometrics and planning. |
