New hope for treating diabetes and AIDS; Discovery of new human steroid conjugates offers therapeutic promise.

MINNEAPOLIS--(BW HealthWire)--June 12, 1997--AMUR Pharmaceuticals Inc. today announced the discovery of a new class of human steroid conjugates.

Six new steroid conjugates have been identified, the first of which is DHEA-PC (Dehydroepiandosterone-phosphocoline).

Company researchers have synthesized DHEA-PC and have confirmed its biological activity. AMUR scientists have proposed that DHEA DHEA dehydroepiandrosterone.

Discovered in 1934, the steroid hormone Dehydroepiandosterone (DHEA) and its sulfated form (DHEA-S) are made mainly in the adrenal gland and are among the most abundant hormones present in human serum. Numerous studies have revealed that DHEA and DHEA-S are precursors for transformation into androgens and/or estrogens Estrogens
