New diamond targets. (Mining & Forestry News). An Ontario government survey has identified new targets for diamond and base-metal exploration in the Coral Rapids area, about 100 Kilometres north of Smooth Rock Falls Rock Falls, city (1990 pop. 9,654), Whiteside co., NW Ill., on the Rock River opposite Sterling; inc. 1867. It is an industrial center in a farm region with corn, soybeans, cattle, and hogs. Electronic equipment, feeds, and plastics are manufactured. . The Ontario Geological Survey The term geological survey can be used to describe both the conduct of a survey for geological purposes and an institution holding geological information. A geological survey (OGS OGS Office of General Services (New York State) OGS Office of Graduate Studies OGS Ontario Genealogical Society OGS Ontario Graduate Scholarship OGS Ohio Genealogical Society ) study outlines a number of sites with numerous indicator minerals important for diamond exploration. The recovery of indicator minerals, including G10 garnets and ilmenite ilmenite (ĭl`mĕnīt), black mineral, iron titanium oxide, FeTiO3, crystallizing in the hexagonal system. It is sometimes found as tabular hexagonal crystals but occurs more commonly as small grains in igneous and metamorphic , indicates that the area warrants further investigation for diamonds, according to an OGS geologist. The chemistry of the garnet and ilmenite indicator minerals suggests that they may have originated from more than one bedrock source. The OGS also identified a. significant base-metal anomaly. Highly anomalous numbers of chalcopyrite grains, an important ore mineral for copper, were recovered from samples collected on one of the major rivers in the Coral Rapids area. |
