New developments on tap in W. Windsor.

Residents of West Windsor West Windsor is the name of two places in the United States:
  • West Windsor Township in New Jersey;
  • West Windsor in Vermont.
  • West Windsor, an unincorporated community in Eaton County, Michigan.
 and surrounding communities are bracing for the future as a few large, developable tracts of land are considered by developers for construction.

The largest site, owned by the Wyeth Corp., would be converted into a multi-use development with high-end shopping, a hotel, office space, community green space and residential housing.

The 653-acre site at Route 1 and Quakerbridge Road is the former home of American Cyanamid American Cyanamid was a large, diversified, American chemical manufacturer. Lederle Laboratories, maker of Centrum and Stresstabs vitamins, was Cyanamid's pharmaceutical division. , a German chemical maker, occupied the site in 2000 but found the facilities too small to use efficiently and moved out last year. Wyeth still owns the property and is interested in turning it into a profitable mixed-use development Mixed-use development refers to the practice of allowing more than one type of use in a building or set of buildings. In planning zone terms, this can mean some combination of residential, commercial, industrial, office, institutional, or other land uses. .

Meanwhile, Sarnoff Corp. has proposed a massive technology center on its Route 1 tract, which is about half the size of Wyeth's.

The two development projects have the potential to improve the area's economy and employment, but complicating the picture are traffic and quality-of-life issues.

Wyeth has hired the Rouse Co., developer of New York New York, state, United States

Rouse is known for designing upscale shopping centers as well as planned residential communities.

Over the past year, West Windsor saw more retail development with the completion of The Square at West Windsor, a 245,000-SF center on Route I that is home to a Lowe's Home Improvement Center.

The town also saw new additions to the Nassau Park shopping center along the Route I corridor.

In addition, West Windsor settled its 10-year dispute with Toll Brothers over the proposed Estates at Princeton Junction development. After losing several court battles to block the development, the township finally reached a settlement with Toll, paving the way for construction of the 1,165-unit complex.

The ground has been cleared for the new development and construction will take place in phases over the next several years.
