New development springing up in South Amboy, N.J.


An amazing redevelopment story is underway along the City of South Amboy's Raritan Bay Raritan Bay is a bay between the U.S. states of New York and New Jersey.  community is being transformed into an eclectic mix of parkland, residential housing and office and retail space.

Spurring these activities is Baker Residential, one of New Jersey leading residential developers, which will ultimately be involved in several parcels within South Amboy's waterfront redevelopment zone. The homebuilder's first effort -- Lighthouse Bay, a new residential enclave of 185 townhomes and single-family homes located on the southern tip of the 32-acre strip of waterfront property, is already off to an auspicious start.

In addition to Lighthouse Bay, Baker Residential expects to develop another residential community on a site located directly north of its Lighthouse Bay community. The company is also concentrating on improvements in public facilities, such as the extension of the Waterfront Walkway from the Middlesex County Waterfront Park Waterfront Park can refer to any of a number of parks on a river or other body of water, including:
  • Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
  • Louisville Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1999.
, the construction of five tennis courts for public and private usage and the rehabilitation of the South Amboy Boat Club, a 32-slip marina which originally began operation in the early 1950s.
