), the US Access Board last week unveiled long-awaited new design guidelines updating access requirements for a wide range of public and private facilities covered by the law. Based largely on the recommendations of an advisory panel and more than 2,500 public comments, the Access Board's new ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG ADAAG Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines ) describe new construction standards and alterations to existing structures, including specifications for building entrances, ramps, parking, restrooms, and telephones, to achieve accessibility for 54 million Americans with disabilities Americans with disabilities comprise one of the largest minority groups in the United States. According to the Disability Status: 2000 - Census 2000 Brief [1], approximately 20% of Americans have one or more diagnosed psycho-physical disability. .
