New chapter for former Yellow Pages building.

Mayor Carl Bergmanson joined representatives of Glen Ridge, N.J.'s municipal, business and real estate communities recently to mark the beginning of construction to convert a former commercial building in the suburban borough to luxury residential condominiums.

The event kicked off demolition of the 54-year-old building at 85 Park Avenue, which will be brought down to its shell. Formerly used by NJ Bell/Verizon for sales of Yellow Pages, the building was closed in the summer of 2003 and was vacant.

The first new residential construction in the Essex County Borough in years, the gutted structure will be raised from two to four stories and transformed into 37 luxury condominium and townhome residences, enclosed parking, a rooftop plaza, and an on-site fitness center, according to The Pegasus Group LLC, the Hoboken-based adaptive reuse specialist which is undertaking the conversion.
