New centennial scholarship.

A new Nursing Education and Research Foundation (NERF) scholarship has been established to mark NZNO's centenary in 2009 and the establishment of regional trained nurses' associations. The Flora Cameron Award for Excellence in Practice, named after a former Department of Health Division of Nursing Director, will be awarded for five consecutive years beginning this year, to co-incide with the establishment of the Wellington (2005), Auckland (2006), Dunedin (2007) and Christchurch (2008) regional trained nurses' associations. In 2009, these formed the National New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association, NZNO's direct antecedent.

The $1000 scholarship is open to registered nurses who have completed post-graduate studies, preferably in nursing, and who are practising in the region in which the scholarship is being awarded that year. Applicants must write how advanced education has made a difference to their clinical practice and the people in their care. Applications close on June 30.
