The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy philanthropy, the spirit of active goodwill toward others as demonstrated in efforts to promote their welfare. Dorfman was the executive director and lead organizer of People Acting for Community Together (PACT), an interfaith coalition of congregations working towards social and economic justice for members of low- to moderate-income communities in Florida's Miami-Dade County. PACT is PACT I - An early system on the IBM 701. Version PACT IA was for the IBM 704.

 one of more than 20 similar organizations that constitute the Direct Action and Research Training (DART) network where Dorfman served as part of the senior management team.

Under Dorfman's leadership, PACT quadrupled its member institutions, raised their annual budget more than six-fold, and led successful campaigns that resulted in tangible policy reforms related to the public school system, public transportation, community policing and fair treatment of immigrants.
