New alliance to protect road workers.As part of the Roadway Work Zone Safety and Health Partners, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC)signed an alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. agency established (1970) in the Dept. of Labor (see Labor, United States Department of) to develop and enforce regulations for the safety and health of workers in businesses that are engaged in interstate (OSHA OSHA n. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a branch of the US Department of Labor responsible for establishing and enforcing safety and health standards in the workplace. ) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, n.pr an institute of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that is responsible for assuring safe and healthful working conditions and for developing standards of safety and health. OSHA, NIOSH and The Roadway Work Zone Safety and Health Partners will work to provide the alliance program participants and organizations with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help protect employees from general health and safety hazards. The program is aimed at reducing and preventing exposures to roadway work zone safety and health hazards. Among other issues, the alliance will focus on flagger safety and reduction of speeding in work zones. |
