WHO: Leaders and experts in the issue of domestic violence prevention,
     response and recovery join Joe Torre, the Verizon Foundation and
     its national partners - the Corporate Alliance to End Partner
     Violence, Family Violence Prevention Fund and National Domestic
     Violence Hotline - for a one-day forum.

WHAT: Building Solutions: National Domestic Violence Summit is
      designed to raise awareness about the issue and its far-reaching
      effects on families and the workplace and workforce; demonstrate
      how technology can improve program delivery; and expand or build
      effective programs that deliver substantive outcomes in
      prevention of and recovery from domestic violence. Joe Torre,
      manager of the New York Yankees and founder of Safe at Home
      Foundation, will share his personal experience with domestic
      violence.

WHY: Domestic violence is a widespread problem that takes a toll on
     individuals, families, communities and businesses. Consider that:

    -- 21 percent of full-time employed adults in the United States
       are victims of domestic violence (2005 landmark CAEPV survey).
    -- More than 5,000 cases of workplace violence are reported every
       day in the United States (Pinkerton Security report Feb. 2003).
    -- The health-related costs of intimate partner violence exceed
       $5.8 billion each year - $4.1 billion in direct medical and
       mental health care services and over $1.7 billion in lost
       productivity (2003 CDC report).
