New York City parks go wireless.


Central Park will be getting wireless Internet this month as the first part of a larger plan to expand free Internet in parks throughout the city.

Three of the city's other large parks--Prospect Park, Van Cortlandt Park Van Cortlandt Park is a large urban park in The Bronx, New York. It has an area of 1,146 acres (4.6 km²), making it the third largest park in New York City, behind Pelham Bay Park and Flushing Meadows Park.  Meadows-Corona Park--will have wireless networks by the end of the summer, park officials said.

 won the bid to install the technology for the Department of Parks and Recreation initiative. The company has already installed a wireless network in New York's Battery Park.

The city is modeling its efforts after private projects that have put wireless Internet in other city parks.
