Women's health is the effect of gender on disease and health that encompasses a broad range of biological and psychosocial issues.

The BIRCWH program incorporates three key concepts: an emphasis on interdisciplinary research, a strong focus on mentoring, and dedication to career development. The SCOR research centers aim to promote research on women's health, with a special emphasis on the role and importance of sex/gender factors. The Office of Research on Women's Health currently supports 11 SCORs, which receive funding from six different NIH institutes and the Food and Drug Administration.

The abstracts highlighted in this issue of the journal demonstrate the scope and extent of progress that has been made through interdisciplinary approaches to studying women's health and sex/gender research.
