New Web-based training course from CDC: Smallpox Vaccine Storage and Handling.

) has announced the availability of Smallpox Vaccine smallpox vaccine

A vaccine containing vaccinia virus suspensions that is inoculated subcutaneously to immunize against smallpox.
 Storage and Handling, an interactive Web-based training course. The overall goals of the course are to ensure proper storage, handling, and shipping of the smallpox vaccine by health care providers and to support the national emergency preparedness response to bioterrorism events.

Four modules cover vaccine distribution, storage, handling, and safeguarding. The course also provides a glossary. Internet resources, and a section addressing frequently asked questions.

The intended audience includes staff in state and local health departments, hospital emergency room technicians, nurses, laboratory workers, physicians, and first responders first responder First response personnel Emergency medicine A person employed in the public sector–EMT, fire fighter, police, volunteer EMS–whose duties include provision of immediate medical care in the event of an emergency; FRs have basic emergency . Continuing-education credits are offered for various professions.
