New Version of the Macromedia Director and Authorware Xtra Features Many Enhancements; Datagrip 2.0 from Sight & Sound Software Now Shipping.

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 1998--Sight & Sound Software, Inc., a Beaverton, Oregon-based software and multimedia development company, today announced the availability of Datagrip(TM) 2.0.

Datagrip puts Microsoft(TM) Access to work for multimedia developers to manage assets, handle sorting and searching, organize a project and generate reports. Using Datagrip with Macromedia Director(TM) or Authorware(TM) is like developing a web site using active server pages (World-Wide Web, programming) Active Server Pages - (ASP) A scripting environment for Microsoft Internet Information Server in which you can combine HTML, scripts and reusable ActiveX server components to create dynamic web pages.

. It separates the content from the programming thereby improving productivity and simplifying project management.

The new version delivers many enhancements which allow multimedia developers to:

-- Store bitmapped graphics The representation of a digital image as a matrix of picture elements (pixels). All images acquired by digital cameras and camcorders, scanners and screen capture programs are bitmapped images. Also known as "raster graphics, images created in paint programs are also bitmapped images.  and wave files in the database for

easy updating and faster runtime performance

-- Refrain from installing software on the client's hard drive

-- Bind data to variables -- automatically update the contents

of the field based upon any change to the database record

-- Automatically data bind to field cast members -- storing

data in a field object rather than a variable lets you

display a number of data items from a record all at the

same time with no additional lingo Lingo - An animation scripting language.

"Version 2.0 is even better with support for data and field binding of graphics and audio files. It has given me the power to do some very distinctive work for some very high-profile clients."

"Datagrip is much more than an Xtra. It fills a significant hole in the Macromedia product line, simplifies some of the more difficult aspects of authoring with Director and Authorware, and opens up many new application areas," said Jeff Kennedy of Sight & Sound Software. "Our users report significant productivity and quality improvements," he added.

The original Datagrip was the first Macromedia Xtra to allow data storage in Microsoft Access A database program for Windows, available separately or included in the Microsoft Office suite.
