New UN System Staff College.
The General Assembly on 20 December formally established the United Nations System Staff College in Turin Turin (t r`ĭn, ty r`–, ty rĭn`), Ital. Torino, city (1991 pop. 962,507), capital of Piedmont and of Turin prov., Italy, aimed at nurturing innovation and promoting a common UN management culture. Coming into existence on 1 January 2002 following the approval of its statute, the College will train UN staff, with particular emphasis in the areas of economic and social development, peace and security, and internal management of the UN system. The new institution grows out of a project, launched by the International Labour Organization in the mid-1990s, Os, providing training to staff members throughout the UN system.
