) today announced a new teleservices software module that supports operators and developers of time division multiple access (TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). ) systems.

The software module is available for the IFR 1900-4 and the new 1900-5 radio test set platforms. The module allows designers and operators to simulate broadcast short message services (SMS (1) (Storage Management System) Software used to routinely back up and archive files. See HSM.

), enabling them to develop enhanced messaging services for ANSI-136 digital cellular mobile phones. With broadcast SMS capabilities, operators will be able to provide location-specific broadcast services, allowing them to generate additional revenue with enhanced messaging services. "The TDMA technology is used throughout the world by companies such as AT&T Wireless and the newly combined wireless operations of Southwestern Bell and BellSouth," said Rob Barden, IFR senior product marketing manager. "TDMA digital cellular and PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1.  technology grew by 88 percent last year and is expected to surpass that annual growth rate in each of the next three years. IFR is supporting new wireless data transmission technologies with industry-exclusive solutions allowing designers to test these new services and rapidly get them to the marketplace."

Pricing and availability

The teleservices software upgrade version 4.4 is currently available for the 1900-4 CSA (1) (Canadian Standards Association, Toronto, Ontario, www.csa.ca) A standards-defining organization founded in 1919. The 1900-5 platform incorporates the teleservices function as part of its base configuration. The 1900-5 will be available in June and costs $64,995.

About the 1900 series

IFR's 1900 series of radio test set products are widely accepted as the industry standard for development and testing of ANSI-136 digital phones and networks and are an integral part of the IFR Consolidated Protocol Test Suite for type verification of cellular phones by the CTIA (1) See CompTIA.
