TrustedLink Guardian

TrustedLink Guardian is now shipping with the newest release of TrustedLink Commerce for Windows(R) 95 and TrustedLink Enterprise, Harbinger's UNIX-based EDI software for large corporations. Additionally, TrustedLink Guardian for Windows NT Workstation is in the final stages of testing with general availability in the first quarter of 1997. TrustedLink Guardian is the first product to give companies the freedom to send EDI documents, such as purchase orders and invoices, either through the Internet or through a value-added network (VAN), or a combination of both. The Harbinger Internet Value Added Server (IVAS IVAS International Veterinary Acupuncture Society

) allows secure routing of documents from the Internet to a VAN or a VAN to the Internet.

"TrustedLink Guardian, in combination with the Harbinger Internet Value Added Server, allows trading communities to migrate to the Internet at their own pace," said James Davis, President of Harbinger Group Operations. "We allow users to select whether to send documents via the Internet or a VAN on a message by message, or partner by partner, basis. Unlike other Internet EDI products, there is no requirement that both trading partners use the same software. A TrustedLink Guardian user can send a document via the Internet to a trading partner on a VAN, who can receive the document using their existing EDI translation software."

TrustedLink Guardian is standards-based software, using the Internet's Simple Mail Transfer Protocol See SMTP.

(messaging) Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - (SMTP) A protocol defined in STD 10, RFC 821, used to transfer electronic mail between computers, usually over Ethernet. It is a server to server protocol, so other protocols are used to access the messages.

Data Security Inc.'s data encryption technologies. TrustedLink Guardian takes EDI documents from TrustedLink Commerce or TrustedLink Enterprise, encrypts them and sends them via the Internet to a trading partner on the Internet or a VAN. The product's security technology addresses all major Internet security issues, including confidentiality (each transaction remains private), data integrity (the document remains unaltered in transmission), authentication (the recipient can be sure of the identity of the sender) and non-repudiation (the sender cannot credibly deny sending the document). Harbinger currently is participating in interoperability tests sponsored by CommerceNet to ensure that TrustedLink Guardian is interoperable with other vendors' Internet EDI products.

"We see Internet EDI as a means to reach additional suppliers, improve efficiency, and further reduce our internal processing costs," said Wayne Brock, Procurement Analyst with Consumers Power Company, Jackson, Miss. "By using TrustedLink Guardian, Consumers Power has a secure, reliable and accountable way to exchange EDI documents over the Internet with our trading partners."

TrustedLink Guardian allows users to select which messages to send via the Internet and which to route via their value-added network. For example, a user might send large documents, such as weekly planning forecasts, through the Internet, thereby reducing VAN charges (which are typically based on the size of the document). But for time-critical documents, such as purchase orders, the user may prefer the reliability of the VAN.

New Release of TrustedLink Commerce

TrustedLink Commerce 2.1, now available in versions for Windows 3.11 and Windows 95, is the latest release of Harbinger's EDI management software that enables trading communities to quickly and easily conduct business electronically.
