New Shaw's Supermarket Opens in Worcester; ************** 150 new jobs added in Worcester.

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Grafton Street Shaw's Supermarket in Worcester, Massachusetts, opened its doors to customers at 7:00 a.m. this morning. With the opening of this new store, the Company now has 206 stores located throughout the six New England States. Worcester Fire Chief Gerard A. Dio helped cut the ribbon at today's opening.

"We are very pleased to offer the residents of Worcester this new and rewarding shopping experience," said Paul Gannon, Shaw's President and CEO. "From the product selection to the store design and layout, we strive to tailor our stores to the community and we are pleased that the new Grafton Street Shaw's Supermarket achieves that goal." Gannon added that Shaw's is making a strong and vibrant commitment to the Greater Worcester area this year with three significant store projects that also include the Webster Square and Gold Star Boulevard store projects.

The Grafton Street Shaw's will employ approximately 150 associates. Leading the Management Team for the store is Gerry Sutton. Born in Boston and raised in Worcester, Sutton is a 30-year veteran of the retail business, mostly with Shaw's. Previously he was the Store Manager of the Shaw's in Medfield, Massachusetts.

Some of the other positions Sutton has held include: Deli Manager, Bakery Manager, Bakery Specialists, Assistant Store Manager, and current position of Store Manager. He is a graduate of Assumption College, where is also enrolled in the MBA program, and is a resident of Worcester.

The Offering

At over 67,000 square feet, the new store offers customers large service departments including Produce with organics, Bakery, Seafood, Deli, Dairy, Cheese, LaCarte prepared foods, Floral, Frozen Foods, and Meat. The store also features Specialty Shops including: Pharmacy, Wild Harvest, Shop The World, Wellbeing, Home Central, Wall of Value, Seasonal, Candy, Coffee, Baby, and Kitchen Products.

Store and Pharmacy Hours

The store will be open for business from 7:00 A.M.-11:00 P.M., Monday - Saturday and from 7:00 A.M.- 9:00 P.M. on Sunday. The pharmacy will operate Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. The Shaw's Grafton Street Pharmacy Manager is Courtney Tycz.

Shaw's in Worcester

"We also take very seriously our commitment to the community and are proud to recognize the many men and women who protect our citizens each and every day in Worcester." Drury announced that Shaw's was donating $2,500 to the Worcester Fire Department. The Grafton Street Shaw's is located near the site of the 1999 fire that claimed the lives of six firefighters from Worcester.
