New Sharp Portable DVD Player Offers Largest LCD Screen, Longest Battery Life, and Lightest Weight of Any Player in its Category.

MAHWAH, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1999--

Portable Player Combines Videophile-Grade Features

With Superlight, Compact Design

Redefining the portable DVD market, Sharp today introduced the industry's lightest and most compact portable DVD player available with a 7-inch LCD screen. Delivering an extended 3-hour battery life, sleek design, and enhanced performance -- including a 16:9 widescreen ratio and Virtual Dolby(R) Surround (Q-Surround) -- the DV-L70U is an innovative addition to Sharp's lineup of award-winning home entertainment products, and a natural line extension from the world leader in LCD technology.

Measuring just 7.4" X 5.6" X 1", the DV-L70U is only slightly larger than a DVD jewel case. At just over a pound without the battery (2.37 pounds with battery), the portable player enables consumers to take the high quality entertainment experience virtually everywhere -- from home to the office to the car, to the beach, or even camping.

"Our new portable DVD player is a great example of how Sharp is driving the future of sound and vision by applying innovation and style to everything we make," said Robert Pleyer, product manager of Digital Video, Sharp Electronics. "Sharp's renowned LCD technology is built into the 7-inch screen, and that, combined with a tremendously lightweight carriage and high quality features, means the DV-L750 offers the perfect solution for anyone looking for portable home theater."

Highest-Quality 7-Inch Wide (16:9) Format LCD Monitor

The DV-L70U uses a thin-profile 7-inch, 16:9 wide-format TFT LCD panel that, through the use of a low-reflectivity black matrix and AGLR AGLR - AGL Resources
AGLR - Anti-Glare, Low Reflection
(Anti-Glare Low-Reflection) polarizer, reduces reflection of ambient light. The large-format screen provides dramatic video images that defy the compact size of the DV-L70U.

The DV-L70U's higher image quality is the result of Sharp's proprietary Adaptive Digital Gamma Correction technology, which corrects color values in dim sections of the picture according to the brightness of the video image. In addition, the DV-L750 uses Digital Super Picture Logic to provide even greater sharpness by adjusting brightness/contrast and clarifying outlines and picture details, while reducing signal "noise."

The DV-L70U allows system building with other devices that have S-Video Out, Composite Video Out or Audio Out compatibility, enabling top quality DVD images to other TVs or monitors. In addition, output from a video camera can be played back through the DV-L70U for crystal clear, convenient viewing on the player's large LCD screen.

Equipped with a built-in optical digital audio output jack compatible with bit-stream output for DTS(a) or Dolby Digital(b), the DV-L70U easily lets consumers match the system environment of an existing audio system.

For outstanding sound, the DV-L70U incorporates a 10-bit D/A converter that processes 8-bit digital DVD data with four times greater accuracy, resulting in playback of high-resolution video images with clarity and crystal clear resolution. A built-in Surround decoder circuit provides dynamic theater-quality audio playback of Dolby Digital 5.1(b) sound using only two speakers strategically placed into the base of the monitor screen. -0-
     Additional DV-L70U features include:

-- Two power sources -- normal household AC power and rechargeable
     battery.

-- A graphical user interface for access to unique DVD functions,
such as switching between subtitles and soundtracks from the main
     unit.

-- Parental control, so that parents can block out programming
     deemed inappropriate for younger children.

-- Rechargeable lithium-ion battery (can be recharged using AC Power
Adapter that comes with main unit), which is designed to be
attached to bottom of main unit.

-- Convenient remote control unit providing easy access to the
DV-L70U's features for on the go or in-home use.

The DV-L70U will be available this December for the estimated retail price of approximately $1,399. Actual selling prices are determined by the retailer and may vary.
