New R&D facility for pharmaceutics giant.


Teaneck, N J-based pharmaceutical giant, Eisai Inc. has broken ground on a new production and formulation research and development facility in Research Triangle Park Research Triangle Park, research, business, medical, and educational complex situated in central North Carolina. It has an area of 6,900 acres (2,795 hectares) and is 8 × 2 mi (13 × 3 km) in size. Named for the triangle formed by Duke Univ. , North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. Eisai will invest $90 million in the 65,000 s/f facility, which will encompass aseptic processing Aseptic processing is used to sterilize a product (typically food or pharmaceuticals) and package the product in a way that maintains sterility. In aseptic processing, food is sterilized, the container is sterilized, and then the container is filled in a sterile environment.  suites, laboratories and other support functions.

In addition, a separate $15 million central utilities building is planned to supply power, steam, chilled water and compressed air compressed air, air whose volume has been decreased by the application of pressure. Air is compressed by various devices, including the simple hand pump and the reciprocating, rotary, centrifugal, and axial-flow compressors.  to existing and new operations.

Facility completion is anticipated in three years with operations beginning in 2009, leading to 59 new jobs over the next three years and a total of 84 new jobs over the next five years.
