New Public Service Announcements Released to Help Californians Prevent and Protect against Discrimination.


SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing The Department of Fair Employment and Housing (or DFEH) is a branch of the California government intended to protect civil rights. It is the largest such agency in the United States, and enforces state anti-discrimination laws which pertain to housing, employment, public  (DFEH DFEH Department of Fair Employment & Housing

) has released two 30-second Public Service Announcements (PSAs) designed to be aired on California radio stations. The PSAs are part of a statewide public awareness campaign aimed at educating Californians about how to help prevent discrimination in the areas of employment, housing and public services.

"The Department is committed to preventing discrimination through education and ensuring through enforcement that everyone has an opportunity to seek, obtain, and hold employment and housing without discrimination," said DFEH Director Suzanne Ambrose.

The PSA (Professional Services Automation) An information system designed to organize, track and manage all opportunities, work, resources, costs, revenues and invoices to improve the productivity and efficiency of the workforce.  titled "Protection under the Law" advises Californians that California law protects them from discrimination in employment, housing and public services. The PSA provides specific examples of what might constitute discrimination and lets consumers know where to receive more information.

The PSA titled "The Job Interview" offers specific examples about which topics should and should not be discussed during the job interview process. Consumers are informed that the DFEH offers guidance to both employers and applicants and lets them know where to go for more information.

The DFEH investigates and prosecutes allegations of discriminatory practices in employment, housing, and public accommodations and discriminatory practices involving hate violence.

Protection against discriminatory practices is a high priority for this administration. The Governor recently signed legislation that will help purge discriminatory property records, extend the statute of limitations A type of federal or state law that restricts the time within which legal proceedings may be brought.
