American Society For Surgery of the Hand Meeting

Booth #209

ARLINGTON, Tenn. & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 2003

Physicians to Demonstrate New Injectable Internal Cast to Grow

Bone in Wrists and Preview the First Ceramic Device for Elbow

Replacements in Chicago Sept. 18-20, 2003

Wright Medical Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:WMGI), a global orthopaedic medical device company specializing in the design, manufacture and marketing of reconstructive joint devices and biologic materials, today announced that its innovative products for the wrist and elbow will be featured at multiple presentations at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH ASSH - Aircraft Systems Self-Healing
ASSH - American Society for Surgery of the Hand
) meeting, being held Sept. 18 to 20, 2003. More than 1,700 hand, orthopaedic, plastic and general surgeons are expected to attend the annual meeting to discuss the latest advances in hand and elbow surgery.

Together, wrist and elbow fractures account for more than 400,000 injuries each year. At the ASSH meeting, Wright's newest product to improve the internal healing of a wrist fracture will be presented, and the company's revolutionary ceramic elbow will be previewed:

-- Dr. Keith Raskin of the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New
York will lead a workshop on the MIIG(R) X3 Injectable Graft,
an injectable internal cast that helps stabilize bone
fragments internally, and grows bone in wrists that have
suffered a fracture. The MIIG(R) X3 Injectable Graft is a new
product available for wrist fractures that dissolves over time
leaving bone in its place rather than remaining permanently in
the wrist. Dr. Raskin will review the techniques and benefits
of treating a wrist fracture both internally with the MIIG(R)
X3 Injectable Graft and conventional external fixation.

-- A leading surgeon in elbow replacement, Dr. Graham King of the
Hand & Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph Health Centre in London,
Ontario, will preview the first FDA-cleared ceramic radial
head, made by Wright. The ceramic material of the joint will
enable patients to have a longer-lasting and higher
performance implant. The device is used to treat traumatic
injuries to the radial head portion of the elbow. About
100,000 of these injuries occur in the U.S. each year, with
        10-15,000 requiring radial head replacement.

-- Leading hand surgeons from across the country will gather to
refine a promising new approach to treating arthritis in the
carpo-metacarpal or "base of the thumb" joint. Current
treatments include steroid injection, medication to numb the
pain, and replacement with silicone or ceramic implants.

Dr. Scott Steinmann of the Mayo Clinic and renowned
arthroscopic pioneer Dr. Terry Whipple, Director of
Orthopaedics and Fitness for American Self of Richmond, Va.,
will lead discussions for a minimally-invasive procedure to
restore function to the arthritic thumb joint using a new
material called GraftJacket(R) Regenerative Tissue Matrix.
