-- Dr. Keith Raskin of the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New
York will lead a workshop on the MIIG(R) X3 Injectable Graft,
an injectable internal cast that helps stabilize bone
fragments internally, and grows bone in wrists that have
suffered a fracture. The MIIG(R) X3 Injectable Graft is a new
product available for wrist fractures that dissolves over time
leaving bone in its place rather than remaining permanently in
the wrist. Dr. Raskin will review the techniques and benefits
of treating a wrist fracture both internally with the MIIG(R)
X3 Injectable Graft and conventional external fixation.
-- A leading surgeon in elbow replacement, Dr. Graham King of the
Hand & Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph Health Centre in London,
Ontario, will preview the first FDA-cleared ceramic radial
head, made by Wright. The ceramic material of the joint will
enable patients to have a longer-lasting and higher
performance implant. The device is used to treat traumatic
injuries to the radial head portion of the elbow. About
100,000 of these injuries occur in the U.S. each year, with
10-15,000 requiring radial head replacement.

refine a promising new approach to treating arthritis in the
carpo-metacarpal or "base of the thumb" joint. Current
treatments include steroid injection, medication to numb the
pain, and replacement with silicone or ceramic implants.
