Company Integrates its Industry-Leading Tools Creating a Seamless

Design Environment that Increases Productivity for Professional and

Power Users

Electronics Workbench Electronics Workbench is an electronic circuit simulator, and was also a company based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada that first produced the software.

The company was originally founded as Interactive Image Technologies
today announced it has integrated its Multisim 2001, Ultiboard 2001, and Ultiroute 2001 products, the design tools of choice for over 150,000 printed circuit board (PCB) users worldwide, into two new solutions -- the Professional and PowerPro Suites. These product suites offer designers of mainstream and higher-end PCBs the best price/performance in the industry. Because the Professional Suite and PowerPro Suite are so cost effective, companies can afford to equip e·quip

The PowerPro Suite also extends Electronics Workbench's reach into the PCB power-user realm. It supports advanced PCB design requirements for programmable logic See PLD. , co-simulation, RF, team design, and computer-aided manufacture. PowerPro Suite complements a company's existing power tools and can be used in enterprise-wide applications for rapid prototyping Building a part one layer at a time using a method of additive fabrication such as 3D printing. Such parts are used for concept modeling to determine if the product design meets the customer's expectations.  and proof of principle before a PCB design is deployed into a high-end system.

"Today's announcement demonstrates our commitment to becoming a top supplier of professional EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board.  tools," said Bill Wignall, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Electronics Workbench. "Multisim, Ultiboard and Ultiroute are industry-leading products in their own right. By integrating these technologies we now provide an extremely strong solution for the design of mainstream and even high-end PCBs. Given today's economic environment, we believe we are the company best positioned to offer customers scaleable solutions that meet both their design and budgetary requirements."

The Professional Suite is ideal for PCB designers who need a solid simulation capability. Simulation assists in the determination of trace widths in PCBs and can take the guesswork out of trace width selection. Currently, a great many PCB tools suppliers cannot offer a solid simulation capability in their tools and have to rely on mechanical constraints CONSTRAINTS - A language for solving constraints using value inference.

for trace width selection which consumes time and engineering resources. By using the real world simulation results generated by Multisim 2001, PCB engineers can reduce the width of traces in certain designs and remain confident they are still capable of successfully operating at the required current flow. By using this approach across the entire board, space can be saved which reduces manufacturing costs.

The Professional Suite also includes Ultiboard 2001, with GerbTool, so designers can efficiently validate, optimize optimize - optimisation  and prepare their layout data all the way through manufacture. Moreover, designs up to four layers and 1400 pins can be completed using Ultiroute, the third major element in the Professional Design Suite. These types of designs can be placed and routed using the latest combination of both grid and gridless routing.

For the power-user market, PowerPro Suite supports users needing a no-compromise approach in their designs. PowerPro builds on the functionality of the Professional Suite with additional support for programmable logic (VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) A hardware description language (HDL) used to design electronic systems at the component, board and system level. VHDL allows models to be developed at a very high level of abstraction. ), co-simulation, RF design, and PCBs with up to 64 layers. The new PowerPro Suite not only provides excellent simulation, it goes one step further by co-simulating both programmable logic (VHDL) and Spice-based components in the design. This is extremely beneficial as more and more PCB designs are utilizing mixed technology, which in the past has required separate design tools.

Electronics Workbench will continue to sell Multisim 2001, Ultiboard 2001, and Ultiroute 2001 as stand alone products. For more information about individual products and the new product suites call 1 (800) 263-5552.

Pricing and Availability

The new product suites from Electronics Workbench are available today. Cost for the Professional Suite, including Multisim 2001, Ultiboard 2001 and Ultiroute, is $4,495. The PowerPro Suite comes with all the features of the Professional Suite with the addition of a wide range of functionality across each tool, including programmable logic design (VHDL), RF Design, and unlimited PCB design size, and is priced at $9,995.
