New PVC plasticizer challenges DIDP.A new plasticizer reportedly offers flexible PVC PVC: see polyvinyl chloride. PVC in full polyvinyl chloride Synthetic resin, an organic polymer made by treating vinyl chloride monomers with a peroxide. compounders higher powder bulk density, which can enhance extrusion rates. Lower efficiency and lower density of this plasticizer are said to result in lower cost per cubic inch, while its weather resistance makes it a strong candidate for outdoor applications. Developed by BASF BASF Bar Association of San Francisco (since 1872; San Francisco, California) BASF Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (German chemical products company) BASF Builders Association of South Florida Corp., Chemicals, Florham Park, N.J., Palatinol DPHP is a C10 phthalate Phthal´ate n. 1. (Chem.) A salt of phthalic acid. (2-propyl heptanol ester) that reportedly performs as well as or better than standard DIDP DIDP Diisodecyl Phthalate (plasticizer) . DPHP boasts better uv stability than most general-purpose plasticizers, making it especially suitable for applications like roofing, geomembranes, or tarpaulins. Color stability and aging performance are dramatically improved with DPHP rather than DIDP, BASF reports. Company researchers say only minor compound changes are needed to adapt DIDP wire formulations to DPHP. It also looks promising for auto interiors, where it reportedly matches DIDP performance. Researchers note that C10 branched phthalates (DPHP, DIDP) are 11% less efficient than DEHP DEHP Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate DEHP Diethylhexylphthalate DEHP Diethyl Hydrogen Phosphite DEHP Dual Encoding Hierarchical Pipelining , which results in improved cold flexibility.
