New PET alloy makes monolayer beer bottle.An Indian company has come up with a high-barrier PET blend that reportedly can produce monolayer mon·o·lay·er n. 1. A film or layer one molecule thick formed at the interface between water and either oil or air by a substance such as a partially esterified fatty acid that contains both hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups in the same beer bottles with shelf life of three to six months and ability to withstand tunnel pasteurization pasteurization (păs'ch  rĭzā`shən, -rīzā`shən), partial sterilization of liquids such as milk, orange juice, wine, and beer, as well as cheese, to destroy . PTN's oxygen barrier is said to be nine times greater than PET and about twice that of PEN. Stretch-blown half-liter bottles of the alloy reportedly show twice the CO2 barrier of PET. To further improve the O2 barrier, Futura adds a "triggerable" oxygen scavenger as a masterbatch during preform injection molding. Tests reportedly show no significant O2 ingress An entrance.
