Starbucks (Nasdaq:SBUX) announced today the next phase of the Company's overall Entertainment initiative: integrating books into its entertainment offerings. By selling and encouraging discussion of the highly anticipated new novel "For One More Day" by bestselling author Mitch Albom Mitchell David Albom (born May 23, 1958 in Passaic, New Jersey) is a U.S. novelist and newspaper columnist for the Detroit Free Press, radio host, and TV commentator. He is a graduate of Akiba Hebrew Academy, Brandeis University, and Columbia University. , Starbucks will further transform the way customers discover quality entertainment options. The nationwide promotion will begin on October 3, 2006, and will include a special event on October 26, 2006, "Starbucks Book Break," encouraging meaningful conversations about this literary work in select Starbucks Company-operated locations in major markets across the country.

To kick off Starbucks new program, Mitch Albom will participate in "Conversations with Mitch Albom," during which the author will appear in one Starbucks location in each of eight major markets to discuss his new book and promote literacy. The Starbucks in-store events will begin on October 3, 2006, the date on which Starbucks will begin selling "For One More Day."

In addition, Starbucks will launch "Book Break," a nationwide discussion day, on October 26, 2006. On this day in a flagship store in each of twenty-five major markets, Starbucks will host a customer-led book discussion group created to encourage communities coming together to read and engage in meaningful discussion about books. A discussion guide will be provided and a table will be reserved for customers wishing to participate in this unique event by joining with other passionate readers to discuss "For One More Day."
