New Mexico sides with equal rights. (Law).

 has promised to sign both bills, which will then go into effect on July 1. New Mexico will be the 13th state to have antidiscrimination protections based on sexual orientation and only the third with such protections based on gender identity.

"It's taken us 12 years to get this spot," Linda Siegel of the Coalition for Equality told The Santa Fe New Mexican. "I think the practical effect will be that people who have been fired from their jobs or who think they've been discriminated against now have recourse. Before, they couldn't even file a complaint with the human rights division."
