New Marketing Network Council Members.


Here are profiles of the three new Marketing Network Council members who began serving in October.

Sandi Carlyon

Senior Vice President, Marketing

Boardway National Bank

San Antonio, Texas

Years in banking/marketing: Twenty-two years, 16 of which have been in banking.

Education: B.S. degree in mass communications from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Graduate of the ABA School of Bank Marketing and Management, Boulder, Cob.

Greatest achievement in banking/marketing: Embracing and leveraging the MCIF. Information is powerful and access to it has changed the face of bank marketing.

Worst day in banking/marketing: The day the 015 closed down a well-respected little S&L I worked for.

Word of advice for fellow marketers: Be passionate about what you do: Marketing is exciting! Challenge yourself to try new things and to execute old things with a new twist.

If I could do it all over again.. . I would have shopped more with my Mom and written down the genealogy my Dad carried around in his head.

Robert Culler

Education: Bachelor of science from Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Mo. Basic School of Banking, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Neb. Intermediate School of Banking, Memphis State, Memphis, Tenn.

Greatest achievement in banking/marketing: I once had a customer wire $1.3 million to our bank as a result of the good way his mother, a customer of mine, had been treated.

Worst day in banking/marketing: Trying to sell senior citizens on the idea of what free checking was all about

Word of advice for fellow marketers: Marketing is something that has to be done every day. If you do not sell your services and institution, nobody else will Cross-selling is a must.

If I could do it over again... I would educate the board of directors, stockholders and employees on the importance of marketing the institution.

Richard G. Dorner

Years in banking/marketing: More than 35 years in banking; 20 in marketing.

Education: Undergraduate degree, Adrian College, Adrian, Mich. Graduate of the ABA school of Bank Marketing & Management, ABA School of Commercial Lending and various other banking schools.

Greatest achievement in banking/marketing: Starting and growing a bank from $4 million capital to $260 million in ten years.

Word of advice for fellow marketers: Stand up for marketing. Demand a senior position in planning, product development and an exclusive in marketing.

If I could do it all over again... I would.
