New MONOPOLY(R): Here & Now(TM) Edition Tokens Remodeled to Reflect ''Here & Now'' Icons.


EAST LONGMEADOW East Longmeadow, town (1990 pop. 13,367), Hampden co., SW Mass., a suburb of Springfield; settled c.1740, set off from Longmeadow and inc. 1894. It is chiefly residential, with some manufacturing industries. , Mass. -- MONOPOLY tokens (aka movers) have come a long way since game designer Charles Darrow Charles Brace Darrow (August 10, 1889–August 29, 1967), has been credited, erroneously, as having invented the Monopoly board game. Darrow was a domestic heater salesman from Germantown, a neighborhood in Philadelphia (the part of Germantown he lived in is now called  initially used buttons and pennies to move around the board. During the past 71 years, players have plotted their course along America's most popular game using die-cast terriers, wheelbarrows, race cars, and even a bag of money.

This September, MONOPOLY fans playing the new MONOPOLY: Here & Now Edition will have the chance to speed past "GO" in a trendy Toyota Prius The Toyota Prius is a hybrid electric vehicle developed and manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation, and one of the first such vehicles to be mass-produced and marketed. The Prius first went on sale in Japan in 1997, and worldwide in 2001. , race directly to "JAIL" in a heritage New Balance shoe, and jet off to the game board's nearest airport (which replaces the railroads) riding in a supersonic airplane.

The updated tokens will include:

--Toyota Prius - Named 2004 "Car of the Year" by Motor Trend Magazine, the Toyota Prius is the best-selling hybrid and most fuel-efficient mid-sized car in America combining a gas engine and an emissions-free electric motor that achieves 650 miles between fill-ups. --New Balance Shoe - MONOPOLY: Here & Now is giving the old shoe the boot and allowing players to take strides around the board with a high performance athletic shoe by New Balance. Known for their specialized footwear, as well as their strong heritage in running, New Balance continues to focus on manufacturing innovative shoes for athletes of all ages and abilities and is the only athletic brand currently producing shoes in the U.S.A.

--McDonald's(R) French Fries - For more than 50 years, Americans have enjoyed McDonald's World Famous Fries(R). With their great taste and popularity as America's favorite, McDonald's French Fries is a perfect icon for a MONOPOLY token.

 MONOPOLY token, has been replaced by a new breed that is a mix between a Labrador Retriever Labrador retriever, breed of large sporting dog whose origins are obscure but whose immediate ancestors were developed in Newfoundland and brought to England in the early 1800s. The MONOPOLY: Here & Now Edition game board has been completely updated based on more than 3 million votes from the American public. The new edition will resemble present-day America as the properties now include landmarks from 22 great destination cities and the property spaces have been re-appraised to include modern-day property values. In addition to the updated tokens and properties, the game's money will be in higher denominations and the Chance and Community Chest cards Chance cards and Community Chest cards are special cards used in the board game Monopoly. The player draws one of these cards when the player's token lands on one of the respectively named spaces on the Monopoly board and must follow its instructions.  will include scenarios relevant to today.

Since 1935, more than 250 million copies of MONOPOLY have been sold in 80 countries and 26 languages. More than 200 different editions of the game have been published, but the most popular continues to be the classic "Number Nine." Affectionately known by its original product number, "Number Nine" is based on the streets of Atlantic City and is nearly identical to Charles Darrow's original submission to Parker Brothers.
