New Jersey DOT adds SmarTraveler Information Service to South Jersey/Camden Area.

Southern New Jersey commuters now have access to real-time traffic information as part of an expansion of SmarTraveler services provided by the New Jersey Department of Transportation The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) maintains the State Highway system in New Jersey. It is headed by the Commissioner of Transportation. The present Commissioner is Kris Kolluri, Esq, who was sworn into office as Commissioner on March 13, 2006.  (NJDOT NJDOT New Jersey Department of Transportation ) and SmartRoute Systems Inc. of Cambridge, MA. SmartRoute has been providing similar services in southeastern Pennsylvania under an agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) oversees transportation issues in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The administrator of PennDOT is the Pennsylvania Secretary of Transportation, currently Allen D. Biehler, P.E.  since 1997.

Starting this week, South Jersey/Camden area commuters have access to up-to-the-minute, route-specific traffic and transit information via mobile and landline telephone as well as the Internet. Commuters can reach the service by dialing (856) 795-9400. Mobile phone users can reach the service with a call by dialing Cellular #211 from most mobile phones (a free call from CellularOne and SprintPCS). Online traffic information is available at www.SmarTraveler.com.

The coverage area for the service includes roadways and major thoroughfares from Trenton to the Delaware Memorial Bridge Noun 1. Delaware Memorial Bridge - a suspension bridge across the Delaware River
Wilmington - the largest city in Delaware
 in southwestern New Jersey. Highways covered include: Interstate 76/NJ 42, I-95 and I-295; US 1, 30 and 322; NJ 38, 70, and 90; all of the Delaware River bridges and the New Jersey Turnpike. The service also includes information on current transit conditions on PATCO PATCO Port Authority Transit Corporation
PATCO Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization, Inc (Florida) 
, NJ Transit and Mercer Metro buses. SmartRoute Systems has established a workstation at the New Jersey Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Center in Mount Laurel, staffed by a Traffic Information Manager.
