New Italian Ag products for U.S. market.Nine Italian companies participating in the Italian Trade Commission exhibit booth at the World Ag Expo (Pavilion A, Booths 1516-1521) are introducing a variety of new products to the U.S. market. The companies welcome inquiries from distributors and will provide literature, videos of products at work, and specification lists for their products at their respective booths. UNACOMA, the Italian Farm Machinery Manufacturers Association, has provided the most recent trends of the industry. Total sales of Italian farm machinery, including components, totaled 7.2 billion C worldwide in 2006, an increase of 1.5%. UNACOMA attributed this growth in sales to increased demand for farm machinery in world markets, while the Italian domestic market remained relatively flat. The association expects 2008 production to benefit from the continued growth expected worldwide. Exports accounted for about 58% of total production of Italian farm machinery in 2006, more than 3.9 billion [euro], an increase of 2.6% over 2005. The growth was fueled primarily by strong demand for farm equipment in Europe, Asia and the Americas. During the same period, exports of Italian farm machinery to the U.S. have--slowed due to a general weakness in the U.S. dollar and drought conditions that have affected farming in many areas of the country. UNACOMA expects this trend to continue in the near future, as the U.S. economy will be growing at a slower pace. Italian farm equipment manufacturers are looking to foreign markets to grow their businesses, especially within Europe and North America. Italian companies already provide many U.S Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with high quality, cost-efficient parts and assembly systems. As a result, The U.S. is the most important market for Italian farm machinery outside of Europe. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce U.S. imports of Italian farm machinery, including parts, totaled approximately $520 million in 2006. During the first ten months of 2007, the U.S. imported $304 million worth of farm machinery and components from Italy. In terms of sales, Italy is the fourth largest supplier to the U.S., and is the second largest producer of farm machinery in the world, behind the U.S. Distributors account for a large portion of the Italian farm machinery sold in the U.S. according to Alex Mussa, Assistant Director of the Italian Trade Commission in Atlanta, Ga. "Italian manufacturers offer highly competitive, quality farm equipment with proven performance in the world market," he says. Distributors and dealers looking for new equipment are invited to visit with Alex Mussa during the World Ag Expo or afterward to contact him by email at amussa@italianfarmmachinery.com.
