New HP NetVectra Windows-Based Terminal Leads in Manageability, Ease of Use; HP Makes Server-Centric Computing Even Simpler with Award-winning HP TopTools Manageability.

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced a new HP NetVectra Windows(R)-based terminal with better performance than its predecessor; an easy-to-use design; and industry-standard manageability features, including support for HP TopTools, HP's award-winning Web-based management software.

With today's announcement, HP makes it easier than ever for a wide spectrum of businesses to discover the ultimate simplicity of Windows-based terminals and thin-client/server computing.

HP is committed to meeting the unique needs of thin-client/server or "server-centric" environments typically found in the world's top service industries, in which users require access to a fixed set of applications. HP provides solutions that deliver ease of deployment, maximum uptime, low cost of ownership and minimal day-to-day maintenance.

Standards-based Manageability

The combination of HP NetVectra Windows-based terminals and HP TopTools enables IS managers in server-centric environments to save time by performing routine tasks -- including the ability to search, group and track by user, department or customer group -- without leaving their desks. HP intends to provide even more HP TopTools functionality for its HP NetVectra Windows-based terminal in the second calendar quarter. This functionality is slated to include remote configuration, trouble-shooting and security management.

In addition, with SNMP industry-standard manageability, the HP NetVectra Windows-based terminals can be viewed, tracked and managed using leading enterprise-management platforms such as HP OpenView, CA Unicenter TNG or Tivoli TME 10.

Simple by Design

"With the increasing cost of IT resources today, we are making deployment and maintenance of our Windows-based terminals as intuitive and simple as possible with remote manageability and built-in networking features."

The HP NetVectra GT310 Windows-based terminal is slated to ship later this month with an estimated U.S. street price of $699(1). New features include 10/100 Base-T networking with remote power-on capabilities, built-in multimedia for streamlining audio and video, two USB ports and a Cyrix MediaGXm 200MHz processor.

     5250, Wyse, SCO and others);

--   support for Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) Server 4.0 Terminal Server
     Edition; Citrix WinFrame 1.6 , 1.7 and 1.8; and Citrix MetaFrame;

--   16MB DRAM memory;

--   8MB flash memory;

--   one bidirectional parallel port and two serial ports;

--   one PCMCIA slot;

--   16-bit stereo audio out;

--   8-bit audio in using ICA;

--   10/100 Base-T network interface;

--   104-key HP keyboard and mouse;

--   Microsoft Windows CE operating system; and

--   SNMP 1.0 support for reporting terminal information.
