Through this program, referred to as the firm's Interest program, Grant Thornton sponsors qualified accounting graduates for a two to three year work visa. Participants work for a local Grant Thornton U.S. office, gain experience and skills in accounting, and receive the same compensation and benefits package as other U.S. professionals at their level. Following a successful work experience with Grant Thornton in the U.S., participants return to China to be considered for a position with Grant Thornton Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov.  or its affiliated firms.

"So far, being in the program has been a great experience," said Christy An, an assurance associate and Interest program participant in Grant Thornton's Chicago office. "I have the same exposure to the firm as my coworkers and have received all the same training. I knew this program would create an opportunity for me to build up a strong career path and gain an understanding of Grant Thornton's firm culture."

Through the Interest program, participants broaden their accounting experience, enhance their personal leadership effectiveness, and develop global leadership capabilities, while Grant Thornton increases its global strength and enhances its competitive edge.

"What distinguishes Grant Thornton's program is our approach and dedication to the participants," said Monica Perez, Grant Thornton's national university recruiting manager. "We are only in phase one of the Interest program, but the response at the universities we've approached so far has been overwhelming."

To date, Grant Thornton has offered the Interest program to eligible students at University of Texas at Austin “University of Texas” redirects here. For other system schools, see University of Texas System.
