The purpose written into the bylaws states: "The Fellowship of Baptist Historians shall serve as an auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Historical Society, undergirding the work of the Society by providing opportunities for fellowship and to study, discuss, and act on issues related to Baptist history. The Fellowship will cooperate with the editor of Baptist History and Heritage and promote the journal." The bylaws article on membership states: "Any academician or professional historian with an interest in Baptist history is eligible for membership in the Fellowship. All qualified members of the Society who attend the 2000 and 2001 annual meetings of the Fellowship or who notify the president of the Fellowship or the executive director of the Society prior to the 2001 annual meeting of the society shall be considered charter members of the Fellowship." If you are a Baptist historian, I highly recommend the Fellowship to you. To become a charter member, President Jonas and I urge you to contact Secretary Mike Williams (mikew@dbu.edu). Membership in the Fellowship is open to Baptist historians throughout the United States and even in other countries. The next meeting of the Fellowship will take place on March 22, 2001 (4:00-6:00 p.m., including a free meal), at First Baptist Church, Pensacola, Florida, where the Society will hold its next annual meeting. I have invited Fellowship officers to consider creating a newsletter. The Society could insert that newsletter into its own newsletter, Baptist Heritage Update. By the way, Baptist colleges and universities, where many Baptist historians teach, serve as important sources of funding for the work of the Society. Since January 1, 2000, twenty-five schools have contributed $18,800. Four have donated $1,000 (Georgetown, Oklahoma Baptist, Southwest Baptist, and Union); three have contributed $1,500 (Carson-Newman, Dallas Baptist, and Mercer); and one has given $2,000 (Campbell). Baylor has pledged to send $1,500 in 2000. Eight schools have donated for the first time in 2000, and six have increased their gifts over 1999. The Society deeply appreciates these gifts. Charles W.
