New FDA-Cleared Breast Cancer Detection System Receives $1 Million in Funding; Infrared Sciences Inc. to Make Non-Invasive BreastScan IR Systems Available to Doctors for No up-Front Cost.

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. -- Infrared Sciences Corporation ("ISC (1) (Internet Systems Consortium, Redwood City, CA www.isc.org) An organization founded by Paul Vixie, Carl Malamud and Rick Adams in 1994 and later sponsored by UUNET and other Internet companies. ") announced today that it has completed a $1 million Series A Preferred Stock Stock shares that have preferential rights to dividends or to amounts distributable on liquidation, or to both, ahead of common shareholders.

Preferred stock is given preference over common stock. Holders of preferred stock receive dividends at a fixed annual rate.
financing, acquiring the capital necessary to introduce BreastScan IR(TM) to a broader market of doctors and patients. Utilizing infrared imaging and proprietary software, BreastScan IR is designed to be used as an adjunctive test with mammography mammography, diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X rays to detect abnormalities in the breasts. The early diagnosis of breast cancer made possible by the routine use of mammography for screening women increases a woman's treatment alternatives and improves her , ultrasound or clinical examination for the early detection of breast cancer.

"BreastScan IR unleashes the tremendous potential of infrared imaging as an accurate, easy-to-use early detection technology," explained ISC President Tom DiCicco. "By introducing fully-automated computer analysis that greatly increases the effectiveness and repeatability of the technology in helping to determine breast health, BreastScan IR is light-years beyond any previous infrared imaging system. It is the only system in the world that allows any doctor ready access to this valuable technology, regardless of their individual expertise in infrared imaging. The "expert" is in the computer program."

ISC is now qualifying requests from doctors across America who can use BreastScan IR effectively a minimum of 200 times a month. ISC will provide BreastScan IR systems to qualified doctors at no up-front cost, and receives only a small fee each time the system is used. Each doctor determines the fee to be charged to patients for the procedure.

"With the costs of a single BreastScan IR system console The system console, root console or simply console is the text entry and display device for system administration messages, particularly those from the BIOS or boot loader, the kernel, from the init system and from the system logger.  approaching $75,000, providing them to doctors on strictly a pay-per-use basis is a significant up-front commitment for us," continued Mr. DiCicco. "Receiving this second round of funding is a major step in helping us bring BreastScan IR to market -- and a tremendous opportunity for doctors to provide the benefits of BreastScan IR to the largest number of women as quickly as possible."

BreastScan IR is a painless pain·less

Neural networks imitate the brain's ability to sort out patterns and learn from trial and error, discerning and extracting  computer software. BreastScan IR is unique among breast health evaluation tests in that it provides the doctor with physiological breast data, which can provide very early, indirect indications of areas of concern, as well as pinpointing the exact location of anomalies. This differs from the anatomical anatomical /ana·tom·i·cal/ (an?ah-tom´i-kal) pertaining to anatomy, or to the structure of an organism.

, which require that any anomaly be sufficiently developed to be physically detectable.

"Breast infrared imaging has the ability to detect the first signs that cancer may be forming up to 10 years before any other procedure can detect it," said Mr. DiCicco, who also explained that the best indication of any abnormality abnormality /ab·nor·mal·i·ty/ (ab?nor-mal´i-te)

2. a malformation.

is through a corroboration of different tests, including BreastScan IR. "As an adjunctive procedure, BreastScan IR does not replace mammography or ultrasound," he continued, "nor is it intended to stand alone as a single test that can determine overall breast health. BreastScan IR can greatly improve the efficacy of those technologies by drawing attention to areas standard mammograms might miss - such as areas within dense breast tissue - or by localizing areas to be further investigated using ultrasound or MR technology."

Because BreastScan IR is totally non-invasive, it is suitable and safe for women of any age. For younger women, BreastScan IR data can be especially useful to track breast health and to provide baseline data to be used for comparison purposes in the future by the patient's physician. "Young women need not wait passively for the time that they or their doctor can palpate pal·pate

." added DiCicco.

An easy procedure for doctor and patient.

The entire BreastScan IR procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and the results are immediately available to the doctor. No data must be "interpreted" by the doctor; all findings are quantified by the system's computer and provided to the doctor in both graphic and text formats that clearly indicate any areas of concern. The procedure does not expose the patient to any radiation, and does not require compression of the breast - the breast is not touched in any way. The patient (disrobed from the waist up) simply sits in a chair facing the BreastScan IR infrared camera while a female computer operator initiates BreastScan's expert system with a few keystrokes.

Several medical facilities have tested BreastScan IR for more than four years as an adjunct for mammography and ultrasound. Two of the largest studies took place at Arena Oncology, in Great Neck, NY and Long Island Diagnostic Imaging, in Setauket, NY, and have accounted for testing of nearly 2,500 patients. Additional Clinical Trials are being organized in four of the leading medical universities in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Mr. DiCicco adds "we have no doubt that the outcome of additional clinical studies by the universities will be successful, and expect these studies to replicate the outstanding results achieved in our initial testing phase."

Medical Product Distributors and Representatives are invited to contact Infrared Sciences to explore ways they can add BreastScan IR to their product lines in order to bring improved breast-health diagnostics to the communities they serve.

BreastScan IR has been awarded 510k approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA FDA
