To install the new elevators, the original "balloon mural," which was also created by Mark Adams, had to be removed, stairways had to be moved and a hole had to be cut between two main support beams to fit the biggest elevator possible into a very small space. The elevators were specially designed by Thyssen Elevator, a contractor that has been renovating BART elevators throughout the system. The new fare gates, which are being installed systemwide on BART, will accept wrinkled tickets, the next generation of tickets will be plastic-coated to resist moisture and feed through the fare gates and add fare machines. |
