New EPCglobal Software Certification Program Launched at EPCglobal US Conference 2006.

11 Companies Received Certification for 13 Software Products

BRUSSELS, Belgium & LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  -- EPCglobal Inc, the not-for-profit standards organization A standards organization, also sometimes referred to as a standards body, a standards development organization or SDO (depending on what is being referenced), is any entity whose primary activities are developing, coordinating, promulgating, revising, amending,  dedicated to driving global adoption of the Electronic Product Code (EPC (1) (Entertainment PC) See HTPC.

(2) (Electronic Product Code) A standard code for RFID tags administered by EPCglobal Inc. (www.epcglobalinc.org).
) for supply chain excellence, today announced the first companies to earn software certification for EPC/Radio Frequency Identification (RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna. ) products.

Eleven companies were awarded the EPCglobal Software Compliance Certification Mark A certification mark on a commercial product indicates five things:
  • The existence of a legal follow-up or product certification agreement between the manufacturer
for 13 products. The certification marks were earned under the new EPCglobal Software Certification Program, a standards-based compliance testing program that provides a neutral and authoritative source for testing software to comply with EPCglobal Gen2 standards and providing information regarding certified products and the vendors who manufacture them.

By providing end users with access to reliable information regarding certified products, the new program helps facilitate and accelerate the start-up phase of EPC/RFID implementations. Now users can focus their resources on completing pilots and capturing information in real business situations rather than on evaluating software components.

"Choosing the right EPC/RFID software for your business can be a challenging process, with many factors to consider," said Chris Adcock, president, EPCglobal Inc. "The new EPCglobal Software Certification Program provides companies with the confidence that the software they implement will work in predictable ways as defined by EPCglobal standards. The program protects the company's investment and helps them implement EPC/RFID programs easier, faster, and for less cost."

Compliance testing was conducted by MET Labs, a third party, vendor-neutral lab, in Baltimore, Maryland "Baltimore" redirects here. For the surrounding county, see Baltimore County, Maryland. For other uses, see Baltimore (disambiguation).
Baltimore is an independent city located in the state of Maryland in the United States.

The new EPCglobal Software Certification Program is offered in addition to EPCglobal's Hardware Certification With ever dropping prices of hardware devices, the market for networking devices and systems is undergoing a kind of change that can be loosely termed as ‘generalization’. Big established enterprises like Cisco, Novell, Sun Microsystems etc.  Program, which provides standards-based compliance and interoperability certification. Almost 30 readers, tags, and printers/encoders have been certified for compliance and/or interoperability by the EPCglobal Hardware Certification Program.

The EPCglobal Performance Test Center Accreditation Program is also available to evaluate testing facilities and their ability to perform tagged unit performance testing Performance Testing covers a broad range of engineering or functional evaluations where a material, product, or system is not specified by detailed material or component specifications: Rather, emphasis is on the final measurable performance characteristics.  in a variety of real world environments common within the supply chain.
