New EOS Corp. Power Supplies Set Industry Standard for Size, Efficiency.CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1999--Eight New Single-Output Open Frame Switchers Offer Significant Density, Efficiency and Weight Advantages for Designers of Data Networking, Telecommunications, Point-Of-Sale, Computer Peripheral, Medical and Industrial Control Equipment EOS Eos (ē`ŏs), in Greek religion and mythology, goddess of dawn; daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia. [From the likening of a bisexual person to an appliance that works on either alternating or direct current. switching power systems, the company announced Wednesday. Designed for use in a wide variety of electronic products that connect to the Internet including data networking and telecommunications equipment, the power supplies set a new industry standard as the smallest and most efficient in their class. The extremely small size and high efficiency of the new EOS power supplies allow design engineers increased flexibility in their product designs, save product development costs, improve system reliability and eliminate high levels of heat generated by competing power systems. The EOS VLT60 60-watt family of single output products are enclosed in a small 2-in. x 4-in. x 1-in. package and the VLT100 100-watt family is fitted into a 3-in. x 5-in. x 1-in. package. Both product families convert AC power to DC power at an efficiency rating of greater than 85% far exceeding the traditional 68% to 72% efficiency ratings of other leading power supplies. "We are experiencing high demand for these new power supplies and have already started high rate production," said James B. Schultz, EOS executive vice president. "Our customers around the world have been requesting single output versions of our acclaimed V-Series family since we introduced them a few months ago. With our new V-Series products, design engineers are gaining real benefits such as overall cost savings when developing their products, increased design flexibility, less heat and improved reliability. Our objective is to make the application of power supplies simple and easy for electronic product makers. This new series of power supplies underscores the EOS commitment to that goal," Schultz said. Product Features The EOS VLT60 60-watt power supply comes in four single output versions: the VLT60-1000 is rated at 5 volts and 10 amps; the VLT60-1001 at 12 volts and 5 amps; the VLT60-1002 at 15 volts and 4 amps and the VLT60-1003 at 24 volts and 2.5 amps. The VLT60 products weigh seven ounces. Single output versions of the popular VLT100 100-watt power supply are available in four product models. The VLT100-1000 is rated at 12 volts and 7.5 amps; the VLT100-1001 is 15 volts and 6.70 amps; the VLT100-1002 is 24 volts and 4.20 amps and the VLT100-1003 is rated at 48 volts and 2.10 amps. VLT100 products weight under 9 ounces. All the units are convection cooled, eliminating the need for an internal cooling fan and are available for sampling and ordering in any quantities. Manufactured at EOS' production site in Camarillo, the VLT60 and VLT100 single output products have a mean time between failure (MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) The average time a component works without failure. It is the number of failures divided by the hours under observation. MTBF - Mean Time Between Failures ) of up to 300,000 hours and meet worldwide safety standards Safety standards are standards designed to ensure the safety of products, activities or processes, etc. They may be advisory or compulsory and are normally laid down by an advisory or regulatory body that may be either voluntary or statutory. including FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite.
