New Dexter 3000 Voice and Data Features to Showcase At COMNET 2001.

Business Editors and High-Tech Writers

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2001

Circuit Emulation Services, T1/E1 and Synchronous Serial Interface

Modules Further Extend the Reach of Enterprise Multi-Service Networks

Mariner Networks, a subsidiary of Odetics Inc. (Nasdaq:ODETA) (Nasdaq:ODETB), and the innovative developer of multi-service integrated platforms for the wide-area-networking (WAN) communities, Tuesday announced new voice and data functionality for the Dexter(R) 3000 multi-service access platforms.

Mariner Networks will demonstrate a new Dexter 3000 interface module, which provides Circuit Emulation Services (CES) to transport uncompressed voice and data at the COMNET COMNET - A simulation tool from CACI for analysing wide-area voice or data networks, based on SIMSCRIPT.  2001 Conference and Exposition in Washington, D.C. Mariner will also preview at the show modules providing cell and packet connectivity over T1, E1 or synchronous serial links.

The Dexter 3000 is the first of a family of high-performance, scalable access concentrators based on Mariner Networks' eXpedite(TM) technology. Using fine-grain ATM scheduling and the latest voice processing The computerized handling of voice, which includes voice store and forward, voice response, voice recognition and text to speech technologies.  techniques, this multi-service access platform can grow with business needs while maintaining wire-speed bridging, routing and protocol interworking (standard) interworking - Systems or components, possibly from different origins, working together to perform some task. Interworking depends crucially on standards to define the interfaces between the components. .

Current features include Ethernet, T1/E1 IMA (Interactive Multimedia Association, Annapolis, MD) An earlier trade association founded in 1988 originally as the Interactive Video Industry Association. It provided an open process for adopting existing technologies and was involved in subjects such as networked services, scripting , DS3, E3, OC-3 and STM-1 ATM interfaces, plus NAT (Network Address Translation) An IETF standard that allows an organization to present itself to the Internet with far fewer IP addresses than there are nodes on its internal network.  and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent "static" IP addresses. DHCP software runs in servers and routers.  service functions.

"The new level of functionality and interoperability in our Dexter 3000 multi-service platform continues to deliver on the performance of our eXpedite architecture," said Tracy Earles, vice president of marketing for Mariner Networks.

We know that the Dexter 3000 not only delivers the performance and scalability of services needed today by the mid-size office market, but also that it will deliver the access connectivity needed by the carriers to roll out future services," concluded Earles.

Enhancing the Dexter 3000 features above, the new interfaces include a Circuit Emulation Services module that allows PBXs to connect across a Wide Area Network. ), this module enables rapid connection (via T1/E1) of existing legacy CBR equipment to an ATM, or clear channel network.

Also being previewed is the T1/E1 interface module, which will provide connectivity to a T1 or E1 balanced circuit A balanced circuit is a common method of transmitting many types communications of signals between two points on two wires. The Synchronous Serial interface module, which also operates in either ATM cell or framed mode, will include connecting options for V.35, X.21, RS-449 and RS-530 interfaces.

With this module in the Dexter 3000, CLECs can deliver integrated services In computer networking, IntServ or integrated services is an architecture that specifies the elements to guarantee quality of service (QoS) on networks. IntServ can for example be used to allow video and sound to reach the receiver without interruption.  to mid-size offices while allowing their customers to retain their legacy router equipment.
