The Dell Precision 370 combines new Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processors with next-generation technologies -- DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

Note that although sometimes abbreviated "PCX," PCI Express is not the same as "PCI-X" (see PCI-SIG and PCI-X for comparison). As a result of the confusion, "PCI-E" or "PCIe" is the accepted abbreviation. , new high performance graphics, integrated SATA (Serial ATA) A serial version of the ATA (IDE) interface, which has been the de facto standard hard disk interface for desktop PCs for more than two decades. The original Parallel ATA (PATA) interface was launched in 1986.  RAID -- and supports Intel's expanded 64-bit memory architecture. These innovations provide investment protection, benefiting performance-driven customers today and providing the foundation for future technological advances.

"Workstation customers have unique and demanding computing requirements, and Dell is focused on delivering the latest technology in reliable, robust products to help them reach new levels of performance," said Paul Gottsegen, vice president of marketing in Dell's product group. "The Dell Precision 370 includes an innovative architecture designed to drive advanced applications and maximize today's technology."

Latest High-Performance Technologies

New Pentium 4 processors support 64-bit memory addressability to break through the 4GB memory limitation of 32-bit systems(a). The new technology enables customers to work with large datasets (greater than 4GB) used in analysis, design and financial modeling applications that require 64-bit capability, while retaining full compatibility and performance for their 32-bit applications. DDR2 memory forms the architectural basis that can scale to meet ever-increasing demands of processor- and graphics-intensive applications.

To provide enhanced performance and reliability, the Dell Precision 370 supports DDR2 533MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  Error Correction Code Noun 1. error correction code - (telecommunication) a coding system that incorporates extra parity bits in order to detect errors

The new high performance PCI Express bus architecture provides the Dell Precision 370 with scalable, device-dedicated bandwidth which can streamline the transfer of critical data within the system -- particularly benefiting customers who work with very large datasets. With increased (up to 8GB/sec.) bandwidth capability, the new PCI Express x16 high-performance graphics interface ushers in a new era of workstation-class graphics for those who require sharp visual representation of data.

The Dell Precision 370 also includes an integrated SATA hard drive controller with RAID0 and RAID1 functionality for high performance and improved reliability.

Engineered for Professional Environments

The Dell Precision 370 workstation is specifically engineered to deliver power and scalability and is available in flexible form factors for a variety of workstation environments. For example, patented acoustic technologies deliver a nearly silent, office-ready solution. The new workstation is available in a mini-tower, as well as a desktop form factor with horizontal orientation for space constrained or rack environments.
