New Clinical Data on Time-of-Flight System and an Enhanced Workflow Management Solution Strengthen Philips Suite of Imaging Technologies and Services for Nuclear Medicine.

ANDOVER, Mass. -- Philips announces validation data for its new TruFlight technology and new version of workspace offering superior display capabilities, analysis tools and customization to advance patient care

Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE NYSE

See: Amsterdam Exchange

) annual meeting in San Diego (June 3-7). The time-of-flight PET/CT system and JETStream Workspace version 3.0 will be showcased along with Philips complete nuclear medicine portfolio during the show.

Philips GEMINI TF is the first PET/CT system to market that features TruFlight technology, utilizing time-of-flight PET reconstruction, creating a new benchmark in spatial resolution (Data West Research Agency definition: see GIS glossary.) A measure of the accuracy or detail of a graphic display, expressed as dots per inch, pixels per line, lines per millimeter, etc. It is a measure of how fine an image is, usually expressed in dots per inch (dpi).  and sensitivity. With three systems currently installed and performing clinical validation, new data confirms that TruFlight improves image quality, consistency and performance - regardless of patient size. The technology enables small lesion detectability, which helps detect disease in its earliest stages, and permits higher levels of patient throughput, shortening exam time, allowing greater comfort for patients and increasing efficiency for busy departments. Full commercial release of the GEMINI TF is expected by the end of June 2006.

"Our company and the PET/CT team have been on a mission the past three years to deliver best in class clinical performance and enable Philips customers to provide the best possible patient care. GEMINI TF is the fulfillment of that vision," said Ian Farmer, senior vice president, Nuclear Medicine, for Philips Medical Systems.

Philips also announced an enhanced version of the JETStream Workspace, an integrated, personalized workflow management solution for nuclear medicine. The system is designed for fast, simple workflow for technologists and physicians -- helping them to process with speed, diagnose with confidence and accuracy, convey results to referring physicians quickly and conveniently, and run a practice more effectively.

The IDL programming language allows customers to develop and customize their own applications. The IDL custom development platform allows for the development of user-friendly applications and offers a combination of visualization, image processing and data analysis routines.

"JETStream Workspace version 3.0 is a major enhancement of the product based on extensive customer research and feedback from current users of the product," said Deepak Malhotra, senior director of marketing and business development, Nuclear Medicine, for Philips Medical Systems. "We are pleased to be working with RSI, a leader in data visualization and image analysis, to offer IDL with JETStream Workspace to allow for greater customization."

JETStream Workspace version 3.0 will be an easy-to-install software-only upgrade for current users of the product. Philips legacy workstation customers can also upgrade to a new platform with JETStream Workspace version 3.0, enabling them to reap the benefits of new applications, such as Astonish a·ston·ish
