New Center for the Regional Economy Created at Saint Mary's College of California.


MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's College of California The college's official literature states that Saint Mary's mission is guided by three traditions: Liberal Arts, Catholic and Lasallian. History

St. Mary's College began in 1863 as a diocesan college for boys established by Most Rev.
 announced today that it is establishing an interdisciplinary research center to study the economy of the East Bay.

Roy Allen (1918 - 1991), was an American bomber pilot from Philadelphia during World War II. On June 14, 1944, pilot Roy Allen and the crew of his B-17 Flying Fortress embarked on a mission over

The new Center for the Regional Economy will act as a clearinghouse and resource for information about the East Bay economy, with special emphasis on Contra Costa Contra Costa can refer to:

Current and potential projects to be undertaken by the center include:

--Studying the impact of a water shortage on the economic health of the region. (current project)

--Surveying the use of the "precautionary principle The precautionary principle is a moral and political principle which states that if an action or policy might cause severe or irreversible harm to the public, in the absence of a scientific consensus that harm would not ensue, the burden of proof falls on those who would advocate " in regulation and its potential impact on Contra Costa County. (current project)

--Investigation of the current heath care needs of children in Contra Costa County, and the impact of children's health Children's Health Definition

Children's health encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of children from infancy through adolescence.
 on the vitality of the region.

--Studying the reasons for declining high school graduation rates.

--Determining the impact of fees and regulations on housing affordability.

The center will also help in organizing regional meetings, such as Saint Mary's College's State of the Economy Conference.
