New Archbishops appointed.Winnipeg--Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Leonard J. Wall of Winnipeg, 76, and named Bishop James V. Weisgerber, 63, as his successor. Bishop Weisgerber has been bishop of Saskatoon since 1996. He is currently co-chair of the committee for Catholic-Anglican dialogue of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. He is also active in several other committees of that body. The Diocese of Winnipeg, with a Catholic population of more than 170,000 in 92 parishes and missions, is served by 60 diocesan priests and 28 priests who are members of religious communities, as well as 18 permanent deacons. There are also 177 religious brothers and sisters in the archdiocese who are members of religious communities. Grouard-McLennan, AB--Father Arthe Guimond, 69, has been appointed Archbishop of Grouard-McLellan in Northern Alberta. Like Bishop Weisgerber, the new Archbishop spent years as a staff person of the CCCB CCCB - Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops CCCB - Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain) CCCB - Central Christian College of the Bible (Missouri) CCCB - Child Care Choices of Boston CCCB - Chocolate Covered Coffee Bean CCCB - Clinton County Conservation Board (Iowa) CCCB - Component Change Control Board CCCB - Component Configuration Control Board (US Army) CCCB - Configuration Control Coordination Board in Ottawa. The Archdiocese of 40,000 Catholics and 69 parishes and mission has 17 priests, 4 diocesan and 13 from religious orders. There are 91 religious brothers and sisters. |
