New AeroMobile Inflight Phone System Will Use Airborne Servers from VT Miltope.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. & OSLO, Norway -- ARINC Incorporated and Telenor today revealed the last major technical element of their planned mobile phone service for airline passengers. The two companies have chosen a high-performance, ruggedized communications server from VT Miltope as the on-board hub for passenger communications when they launch their AeroMobile(TM) service this year.

Miltope is a leading maker of communications hardware for military and commercial uses, including servers for multimedia, communications, and data applications. The new Miltope Airborne Telephony Server (ATS) is ideally suited to bandwidth-intensive tasks such as shared delivery of mobile cellular, E-mail, Internet, and IFE services in the aircraft cabin.

As the hub of AeroMobile service, the Miltope ATS will run industry-standard Altobridge AM Gateway Platform(TM) and custom AeroMobile(SM) software. The ATS manages the onboard picocell/antenna system for GSM connectivity within the cabin, and interfaces to classic SATCOM avionics either directly or through a Cabin Telecommunications Unit.
